Green LX por Tiago Silva

In my project I wanted to demonstrate the power of statistics, and how they are only shown to us in moments of a crisis. They are mostly used to scare us and rarely presented with an educational purpose, always showing us what is more convenient to the story.
I would use an interactive projection in which the people passing in front of it would become trees on the screen. Their movement and height would be copycated by the tree.
Behind this virtual forest I would present recent statistics of forest fires in Portugal. The purpose is that when there are many people passing by, the phrases become extremely hard to read. Like so I intend to demonstrate that if forests exist in great number, no one will care to look at statistics.

MVRDV - Far Max [1998]– Excursions on Density | 010 Publishers

From the dutch architect studio MVRDV, it tries to explore a new form of making urbanism, respecting not only the environment but also to insert in it new "urban" shapes, in a way that a new "natural" harmony is created, allowing us at the same time a healthy expansion of the urban landscape. Mainly a book of studies, it tries to push the boundaries of every concept shown.

"Vast areas of the Netherlands and other states seem to be filling up with a suburban "matter", of low cost housing, low rent offices, warehouses and other low density elements. How to cope with this matter is turning our environments into one "sea of mediocracy", onve vast"greyness", an equasion of difference and individualism? Is it possible to reconsider this situation by carrying densities to an extreme and ruffling the texture with inserts or polarities?"

DURKIN, Martin [2007] The Great Warming Swindle;produced for channel 4 (british), available on Youtube in 9 parts: «A grande farsa do aquecimento global 1; 2; 3; 4; 5; 6; 7; 8 e 9» - acessed on 21-03-2008

This documentary comes at a time when the greenhouse effect is being highly publicized in the media as something negative. It is considered a problem, however, what many people dont know is that CO2 cannot be considered the sole responsible for the high temperatures in present times. In this documentary cientists totally disagree with the Al Gore line of thought and with what is presented in An Inconvenient Truth, believing that we are going through just another weatwave, equal to many others in the history of our planet.

GUGGENHEIM, Davis [2006] An Inconvenient Truth, with Al Gore | DVD | Paramount, Lusomundo Audiovisuais
An Inconvenient Truth
Al Gore tries in this sentimental movie to awake the world population to the environmental disaster ahead, caused by the greenhouse gases. For that he uses many graphics and statistics, demonstrating in all of them that the high levels of CO2 our planet has acumulated. As a consequence Men has been confronted with an increase of temperatures, hurricanes and tornados.
